LGBTQ+ Emerging Artist Award FAQs

Who is eligible for the artist award?

Eligible emerging artists must:

• Self-identify as LGBTQ+
• Be a resident of the U.S.
• Be between 18 and 24 years old
• Have yet to be substantially supported within the music industry, the media, or the public at large
• Are creating and performing original music that can be shared and viewed as part of the request for support. Body of work can be within a broad range of genres/styles.
• Have a focused creative direction and goals, with evidence of developing their artistic “voice”
• Clearly articulate how the award will be used to support their artistic vision and goals
• Have a clear artist presence on social media

What is the definition of emerging artist for this opportunity?

For the purposes of this opportunity, the definition of “emerging” is to support artists with some track record of creating and performing their music (not beginner artists), and artists who are not at a point in their careers where they receive consistent development and production opportunities, significant recognition, awards, and acclaim (not mid-career or established artists).

Are there age requirements?

18-24 year olds.

What is the award amount available to eligible artists?

Ten (10) awardees will receive:

• $3,000 Grant
• $1,000 Gibson Retail
• Quarterly Mentorship Opportunities
• Eligibility for Performance Opportunities

How do I request support?

Interested artists will need to complete an application that includes an artist profile and eligibility verification. Music Forward will be accepting requests through Submittable online here.

Who will have access to the information I submit in my request for support?

Music Forward will use application information for internal vetting purposes. Images and quotes may also be used for promotional purposes at Music Forward and with our partnering sponsor. See details on Music Forward’s privacy policy here.

What can the funds be used for?

Funds can be used in a variety of ways to support a music project intended to elevate the artist’s craft, visibility, vision, etc. Be prepared to clearly articulate goals for use of the funds as part of the request process. Here is a comprehensive article to assist you in defining your project.

What is the deadline to apply?

Friday, August 23^rd, at 11:59 PM PST.

How are artist requests evaluated?

Music Forward will be evaluating submissions based on breadth of work, quality of work, articulation of artist vision/voice and description of use of the Award.

How long will the review process take?

We expect the review to move swiftly but can take 30-60 days. We will do our best to work through applications as quickly as possible and thank you for your patience.

How will selected artists be notified?

Selected artists may be contacted via e-mail or phone by Music Forward.

Is this opportunity only available to US artists?

Yes, artists must be a resident of the U.S.
